Applying The Tuning Competencies Framework To Map The Training And Qualifications Of Refugees Who Are Nurses: An Exploratory Exercise
Dr Maria Cassar is a Senior Lecturer and Co-ordinator of Masters Programme at the Department of Nursing, University of Malta. She participated in the Tuning-MEDA project as a subject area expert (Nursing). She is currently participating in the CALOHEE project and is currently pursuing a period of study as a Visiting Researcher at the DITA.
Dr Maria Cassar will present an exploratory exercise on the appropriateness and feasibility of using the results of completed Tuning projects – pertaining to Nursing (Tuning (Europe) and Tuning-MEDA – to map the education and training received by refugees in Europe who claim to be nurses, but lack documents that verify the respective nurse qualification/s. Reference is also made to the Tuning-CALOHEE project which is very close to completion. The exercise seeks to propose avenues for consideration by relevant regulatory and policy bodies in Europe in view of effectively addressing requests for registration of nurses without verifiable documents.
