Abstract:
The Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (AMOC) which acts like a conveyer belt that brings warm water from the tropic to the North Atlantic, plays a key role in the European continent climate. This circulation results from a delicate balance of temperature and salinity. If it shuts down it would have a huge impact on climate. Based on simple dynamical systems models called Box models, we present a qualitative study of AMOC in the presence of stochastic forcing and on an idealized scenario of slow variation of the mean global temperature.
