On Thursday, 25 September, we will hold a Deusto Business Alumni Lunch and Discussion with Estíbaliz Goñi, Director of Processes and Technology at i-DE (Iberdrola Group), titled: “The Importance of Electrical Networks in Competitiveness and the Energy Transition.” This event is in collaboration with Iberdrola.
In her presentation, Estíbaliz will discuss how the electrification of the economy is key to the energy transition. The future is electric, and the distribution network plays an essential role on the path to decarbonisation. Electrical networks are vital for connecting demand with renewable generation, supporting industry in electrifying its processes, electrifying mobility and heating to make them more sustainable, responding to new uses linked to digitalisation and AI, and meeting the expectations of customers who want to adapt their consumption to their lifestyles or even produce their own energy.
The capacity of the networks and their digitalisation are crucial to achieving energy self-sufficiency, ensuring industrial competitiveness, and advancing social progress. This type of infrastructure requires greater visibility in the public imagination. It is important for both private and public stakeholders to work together to raise awareness about the critical nature of electrical networks: what they are, their significance, regulatory framework, and the challenges posed by the energy transition.
