The University of Deusto presents the results of the third Deusto Social Barometer (DBSoc). This survey is conducted every semester and collects citizens' opinions and preferences on subjects that are of the most concern in Basque society.

Researcher Fernando Bayón will give a talk entitled "Verdi and theatre architecture" in the Ninth Verdi Week
Fernando Bayón, PhD, is a researcher at the University of Deusto Institute of Leisure Studies. His interest in genealogy analysis and the crisis of modernity seen through art, drama and literature led him to do research stays at universities including ETH-Zurich, Princeton and Yale. He is the author of numerous books and articles.
On 28 May, he will take part in the Ninth Verdi Week: "Seis vueltas de tuerca sobre Verdi", sponsored by the Bilbao Friends of the Opera Association (ABAO). His talk is entitled “Verdi and theatre architecture" and will review Verdi's works in light of the architecture of the theatres for which they were created. This event will be held at 7:30 pm in the Assembly Hall.

Basque writer Miren Agur Meabe (Lekeitio, 1962) has written poetry (Oi, hondarrezko emakaitz, Bitsa eskuetan...), and literature for children and young people (Uneka... Gaba, Urtebete itsasargian...) and stories (Mila magnolia lore, Kristalezko begi bat....). She was awarded the Euskadi Prize for Children and Youth Literature and the Spanish Literary Criticism Prize.
In the closing session of the conference cycle “Gabriel Arestiren Ondarea”, Miren Agur Meabe will discuss the four asterisks in “Lau ohar denboraren orratzetan”, which marks the 50th anniversary of the book of poetry “Harri eta Herri”, written by Gabriel Aresti.

This meeting is organised by Deusto Entrepreneurship Center to inform the public about the Yuzz Programme. This open initiative targets 20 enterprising persons with technology-based ideas and above all, those who are eager to start a business and demonstrate their potential as entrepreneurs.
The Yuzz Programme, which will begin in March 2015, is promoted by the Santander. The University of Deusto is a partner in the Yuzz Centre in Baracaldo.

Socially engaged art: Los Nadies by Antonio Soto. These 17 paintings, which have travelled to various universities, take the poem with the same title by Eduardo Galeano as their starting point. The exhibition will be on display from 10 to 19 February. Antonio Souto will be at the UD during this time to offer guided visits to students wishing to view the works. Lecturers who are interested in visiting the exhibition with their students may contact cultura@deusto.es for details. Visits last from 20 to 40 minutes. It is advisable to arrange the visit 24 hrs. in advance to organise and coordinate the groups.
