Institutional welcome in Bilbao for international students

The University of Deusto is preparing to welcome more than 600 new international students for the first semester of the 2025/26 academic year, which will begin on 8 September. The students, coming from partner universities in nearly 50 different countries, will be distributed between the Bilbao campus (494 students) and the San Sebastian campus (127 students), with an additional 40 students participating from their home countries via the Virtual Campus. It is worth noting that a significant number of these international students comes through the Erasmus+ mobility programme, further reinforcing the University of Deusto’s commitment to international and multicultural exchange. The Institutional Welcome Ceremony will be held on 4 September at 12:30 CEST in the Ceremonial Hall at the Bilbao Campus. The event will be attended by key authorities, including:
  • Juan Mari Aburto, Mayor of Bilbao
  • Begoña de Ibarra, Director General for Culture, Biscay Provincial Council
  • Aitziber Irigoras Alberdi, Vice-Rector for University Community and Agenda 2030, University of Deusto
  • Marian Aláez Martínez, Deputy to the Vice-Rector for Research and International Relations, University of Deusto
Several honorary and general consuls based in Bilbao will also attend. Afterwards, a lunch will be offered and the students will have the opportunity to explore the city of Bilbao with Deusto students participating in the Buddy Programme. Countries of origin of the students (nationalities): Germany, Andorra, Argentina, Austria, Belgium, Belarus, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Chile, China, Cyprus, Colombia, Denmark, Slovakia, Slovenia, United States, Estonia, Finland, France, Gabon, Greece, Hungary, Iran, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Malaysia, Morocco, Mauritania, Mexico, Norway, Netherlands, Peru, Poland, Portugal, United Kingdom, Czech Republic, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Tunisia, Turkey, Ukraine, Uruguay, Vietnam.
