Distopía\utopía _cinemaforum: Blade Runner
In the Dystopiautopia cycle we want to explore how dystopian narratives condition the futures we are able to build, and also to vindicate the contribution of utopian representations. With this aim we want to propose some films to watch and books to read, which we can then discuss together.
In this first session, the film Blade Runner will be screened, presented by the director of the Basque Film Library Joxean Fernández, who will also direct and moderate the subsequent colloquium.
A film adaptation of the book Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? by Philip K. Dick, the movie Blade Runner (1982, Ridley Scott) is a panoramic view of the social dystopia that will be presented in the story. The film raises a series of questions that have been part of humanity since its beginnings: Who are we? How much time do we have left in this world? The film uses a bleak setting to present one of the biggest questions of modern science: can machines replace our humanity, or can they become better than us?
