International Invisible Film Festival ‘Film Sozialak’
As part of the International Invisible Film Festival ‘Film Sozialak’, taking place in Bilbao from 16 to 23 October, the Pedro Arrupe Human Rights Institute is pleased to invite you to a special festival session at the University of Deusto, with a screening of the short documentaries Ez daukate and Los cayucos de Kayar, followed by a film debate.
Synopsis:
Ez daukate is a short documentary that tells the story of Yus, a 29-year-old who faced heavy police pressure after several attempts to escape his country by hiding under lorries.
Synopsis:
Los cayucos de Kayar, nominated for the 2025 Goya Awards, follows the return home of a Senegalese migrant who has lived in Spain for 15 years. The film portrays his reunions, his nostalgia, and his determination not to become a role model for the young people in his village.
After 15 years in Spain as a migrant, Thimbo visits his fishing village in Senegal, where he is overwhelmed by conflicting feelings of longing and detachment. He also struggles with the dangerous influence he has on the young people in the village, who see him as an example to follow and are tempted to risk the same perilous journey by boat.
- Thimbo Samb, protagonist of Los cayucos de Kayar.
- Itsaso Jurado, director of Ez daukate.
- Ongi Etorri Errefuxiatuak.
- Kultura, Comunication y Desarrollo KCD - ONGD (Culture, Communication and Development, NGOD).
- Gustavo de la Orden Bosch, moderator (Pedro Arrupe Human Rights Institute).
We encourage you to join us at this event to reflect and debate on the experiences of forced migration, human rights violations at borders, and the responsibility we share as a society to make these realities visible and to protect those who are forced to undertake such dangerous journeys.
We look forward to seeing you there.
