The COVID-19 pandemic has had a huge social and economic impact. Both developed and developing economies have been affected, with marginalised groups and the most vulnerable people bearing the brunt. Reviving tourism will help drive recovery and growth, but it is essential that the benefits generated are widely and fairly distributed.

World Tourism Day 2021 is a day to focus on Tourism for Inclusive Growth. We have the opportunity to go beyond tourism statistics and recognise that there is a person behind every number. UNWTO invites its Member and non-Member States, UN agencies, businesses and individuals to celebrate tourism’s unique ability to ensure that no one is left behind as the world begins to reopen again and face the future.

World Tourism Day, celebrated on 27 September each year, is observed globally and raises awareness of the social, cultural, political and economic value of tourism and the contribution the sector can make to achieving Sustainable Development Goals.
