Presentation of the book “Un infierno helado” by Alfonso Carlos Saiz de Valdivielso
The book is about Daniel Gómez who arrives in Bilbao, coming from Buenos Aires, on May 1st, 1980, in the middle of the ETA terrorism period. He comes to visit his grandmother Lola, whom he has not seen for thirty-five years. He wants to know from her lips the story of the fortunes and misfortunes of his parents, who died tragically as a result of the civil war. Through Lola’s testimony, Daniel will learn about the life and miracles of the three guests who shared Lola’s boarding house with his father; about daily life; about the landscape and landscape of a city on the eve of the convulsive and disturbing times that enveloped the life of Bilbao in those days, with tragic results on board the prison ship Cabo Quilates, and later in the massacre perpetrated in the convent of the Guardian Angels, and about what will happen a year later…
