DeustoForum Conference “Crisis de Solidaridad, Solidaridad ante la crisis”

On Wednesday 25 November, a dialogue will be held on “Crisis de Solidaridad, Solidaridad ante la crisis”, which will be introduced by the Rector of the University of Deusto, José María Guibert. Participants will include Angel Toña, Basque Minister of Employment and Social Policies, Carlos Bargos, Director of Cáritas Bizkaia and Daniel Izuzquiza, Coordinator of the Pobles Units Centre (Servei Jesuita a Migrants).

In these times of crisis we are being witness to a reality of suffering. We talk about solidarity towards the crisis because this is being the response of many people, but also about the crisis of solidarity because there have emerged unsupportive reactions, and even the crisis has been the spur to justify the lack of solidarity.

The social State is undergoing a severe crisis and it is unfeasible to return to “the previous situation”, which requires great doses of creativity.

We need proposals to strengthen solidarity and rebuild the ways in which it is fulfilled: a citizenship committed to solidarity; a social fabric that builds solidarity; renewed public policies to strengthen solidarity.
