AI and the environment | Technology at the service of citizens. Challenges and impacts of artificial intelligence
Artificial intelligence (AI) is often presented as a purely “technological” phenomenon, whose adoption in its current form is seen as inevitable. However, behind every algorithm lie human decisions; behind every data centre, territories and communities affected; and behind every language model, people carrying out invisible work. Technology is not neutral, and both its development and its applications are subject to ethical, social and political challenges.
Within the framework of the project “Technology at the Service of Citizens”, Alboan Foundation and the University of Deusto have organised a series of four online sessions, open and free of charge, aimed at fostering a critical perspective on the impacts of AI from the standpoint of global citizenship and socio-environmental justice.
This session on AI and the environment will feature:
- Marina Otero Verzier, architect and AI researcher.
- Paz Peña Ochoa, consultant and researcher in digital technologies.
