“The American Historical Association Tuning Project: Impact on the History Discipline After Six Years”

Dr. Daniel J. McInerney is professor of history at Utah State University in the United States. His work with Tuning USA began in 2009 and has expanded to include outcomes-based, student-centered projects in higher education with the State of Utah, the Association of American Colleges & Universities, the American Historical Association, and the National Institute for Learning Outcomes Assessment. In 2014, he had the opportunity to introduce Tuning to colleagues in Japanese universities. Dan is currently a visiting researcher with the Deusto International Tuning Academy.

Dr. Daniel McInerney will discuss the results of a survey on Tuning conducted with historians across the United States. In 2012, the premier disciplinary organization in the field, the American Historical Association, became the first professional scholarly society in the world to launch a Tuning project. Dr. McInerney will examine the impact that Tuning has had after six years on course design, assignments, curricula, pedagogy, assessment, and the broader “culture” of historical scholarship and teaching.
