Data has been shown to be an extremely useful resource in many fields including communications, information technology, weather forecasting or economics. Data processing techniques are enabling many applications which can reduce the uncertainty on the consequences of posible actions and, hence, improve decision making. Rational decision making requires a probabilistic processing of data, which encounters several technical difficulties such as modelling complex data. In this talk, I will provide an overview of this probabilistic framework and describe effective data processing techniques in the important case study of network localization.
