Closing Ceremony of the “Leyendo en clave jurídica”(Reading in a Legal Key) Program
Next Wednesday, March 19, will take place the third cycle of readings of the “Leyendo en clave jurídica” program organized by the Faculty of Law. In this final cycle of the academic year 2024-2025, entitled “La memoria sanadora y la mirada de las víctimas después del terrorismo” (Healing memory and the view of victims after terrorism), Purgatorio (Jon Sistiaga, 2022)being the central work chosen, will bring us closer to terrorism and the brutal violence of ETA, to the darkest years, the years of lead, of our recent history. The book speaks to us today of a land strewn with rusty weapons and abandoned dumps where the necessary memory has yet to be built. Purgatorio, like the other works proposed and accompanying it in this cycle, confronts us with decisive issues such as freedom, mourning, guilt, repentance and collective responsibility in the face of evil and provoked and consented pain.
As is tradition in Leyendo en Clave Jurídica, the day will end with a meeting with the renowned journalist and documentary filmmaker Jon Sistiaga and our colleague Iñaki García Arrizabalaga, which will be overseen by Professor Itziar Casanueva. In this dialogue, we will reflect on the idea of the construction of historical memory, justice, forgiveness and reparation for the damage suffered by the victims.
