Deusto Summer School 2020 – Painting and fashion in Spain in the first half of the 20th century
An introduction to the special relationship between painting and fashion in the first half of the 20th century, mainly through the work of three creators: painter Joaquín Sorolla, the also painter and designer Mariano Fortuny and designer Cristóbal Balenciaga.
The aims are to:
- Get to know some of Joaquín Sorolla's works as a portrait painter and his special connection with the fashion at the time.
- Learn about the main contributions made by Mariano Fortuny y Madrazo, as a designer, to the history of fashion and the reflection of all this in his painting.
- Discover the influence of the great masters of Spanish painting on some of the creations of fashion designer Cristóbal Balenciaga.
