DeustoForum. Shashi Tharoor: “The soft power of India”. “Diálogos con India” lecture series

DeustoForum. Shashi Tharoor:
11/10/2015
19:00 – 20:30
Ellacuria Room. Calle de Ramón Rubial, 1 48009 Bilbao

Shashi Tharoor is currently an MP representing the Thiruvananthapuram constituency and Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on External Affairs. He has previously served as Minister of State for Human Resource Development and Minister of State for External Affairs in the Government of India. During his nearly three-decade long prior career at the United Nations, he served as a peacekeeper, refugee worker, and administrator at the highest levels, serving as Under-Secretary General during Kofi Annan’s leadership of the organisation.

The “soft power” of a country is based on its culture (when it is attractive to others), its political values (when they are honoured internally and abroad) and its foreign policy (when it is viewed as legitimate and with moral authority). Shashi Tharoor will reflect on the way India has put into practice these three dimensions to build its “soft power” next Tuesday, 10 November, at a lecture that will be held as part of the “Diálogos con India” lecture series.

Places are limited.
